Episode 3 (In which our Hero returns to the City of Brotherly Love) – “We’re Des Rocs, and we’re not fuckin’ around”. This was the last sentence lead singer Danny Rocco yelled as he was about to launch himself from the bass drum. The last time Des Rocs was in town was opening for The Rolling Stones at the SOLD-OUT Lincoln Financial Field. Since last summer, they have been throughout Europe, Canada opening for MUSE, The Struts, k.flay, and now The Glorious Sons.
The Brooklyn-based American Alt-Rock band formed in 2018 by former Secret Weapons (band) member Danny Rocco as his solo project. Backed by a tight two-man rhythm section consisting of the ever-smiling Will Tully on drums, and shaggy haired Eric Mendelsohn on Bass producing a sound larger than the stage.
Flashing lights fill the venue as Will and Eric take their positions on the stage. Danny enters the stage with his white Fender and fringed jacket looking like a modern-day Jimi Hendrix. Danny strikes a praising pose to the huge banner position as the backdrop. A guitar virtuoso in his own rights, Danny plays the guitar behind his back, and makes the guitar cry with a hint of Stevie Ray Vaughn.
The set is high energy and had the swagger of a very confident band with something to prove. Bottom line is this band is hungry, they want to entertain, and will not let anything or anyone get in their way.
After the set, I met the band in the dressing room as they decompressed from such an amazing performance. Great guys and Danny was super accommodating and down to earth guy as I rolled out a few shots.
So, what’s next for Des Rocs? They are current supporting The Glorious Sons through February, and already have some festivals lined up; Shaky Knees Music Festival – Atlanta, GA – Epicenter Festival – Concord, NC, and the Sonic Temple Festival in Columbus, OH. You can find everything Des Rocs HERE!!
