Liam Gallagher Is Epic @ The Fillmore

The Redcoats Are Coming!!!

The City of Philadelphia was taken over once again by the British, this time with guitars!! Liam Gallagher made good on a promise to return to the city after he had to cancel last time due to an illness.  He brought along fellow Brit Richard Ashcroft which made for a fantastic evening of Britpop for the hungry colonial music fans. In support of Liam’s current album release, “As You Were.” The album debuted at number one in the UK, outselling the rest of the top 10 of the UK Albums Chart combined and achieving gold certification in its first week. It has since been certified platinum in the UK, which also achieved the highest single-week vinyl sales in 20 years.

Richard Ashcroft started the evening with just an acoustic guitar.  The self-proclaimed Dragon Slayer proudly showed the audience his Saint George necklace.  In between songs, Richard would let the crowd know his feelings about current news, music, and his feelings on America.  Richard told the audience that he had one of the city’s famous Philly Cheesesteaks which he loved, stating he was in Boston yesterday, and enjoyed their clam Chowder!! “I love America!”  The set concluded with a fantastic version of The Verve’s biggest hit “Bitter Symphony” which brought a huge roar from the crowd.

Behind what seemed like a million flashbulbs (anybody remember them?), somewhere lurking in the background with an Adidas track jacket was Liam Gallagher.  As the music began and Liam took the stage with his famous half walk/half swagger to the grab the mic.  Armed with a Tambourine, he jumped right into “Fuckin’ in the Bushes.  The setlist was a mix of both new and old, and many, many Oasis songs.  The tour continues through Europe for the remainder of the year with the pinnacle of the tour probably being when Liam opens for The Mighty Rolling Stones – in London Stadium on May 22nd.

Set List: Fuckin’ in the Bushes, Rock ‘n’ Roll Star, Morning Glory, Greedy Soul, Wall of Glass, Bold, For What It’s Worth, Some Might Say, D’You Know What I Mean?, You Better Run, Cigarettes & Alcohol  Encore: Supersonic, Live Forever, My Way (Sid Vicious song).
