Michigan rockers, Pop Evil rolled into Peoria on Saturday with one thing in mind. Rock. They are no stranger to Peoria and they have developed quite a good following here over the years. Along for the ride were Seldom Told , Them Evils and from That Metal Show – Don Jamieson. Of the opening acts, Them Evils definitely stood out. I had seen them a couple of years ago opening for The Pretty Reckless , and to be honest all I remembered of them was their name. Tonight was a different story. They were engaging, very energetic and interacted a lot with the crowd while rocking one song after another. I’m not a huge fan of comedians at rock shows but Jamieson had a few pretty funny stories to tell, although I think the crowd would have rather just been watching Pop Evil sooner.
It’s obvious these guys have been honing their craft over the last 18 years and it shows. They are a pretty much straight at you rock band , which is refreshing these days with all the electronic and gimmicky acts around. Vocalist Leigh Kakaty instantly connects with the crowd and has a relaxed, but powerful stage presence. The bands sound has always reminded me of a combination of Alice in Chains, Rob Zombie, Stone Sour type of thing, which is pretty cool. All their hard work and talent seems to be paying off as they are headed for a few more US dates, then off to Europe and Australia. Expect big things to come for these rockers from the Midwest!
