Powerman 5000 opened this leg of their “New Wave” tour to a full house at the Q Casino in Dubuque Iowa. Thankfully, this was an indoor concert because the skies had grown angry as heavy rain moved through the area. The intimate venue filled up fast, despite the heavy rain storms.
First to take the stage was Vyces. They brought heavy rock intensity and stage presence along with them and had quite a few fans in the audience. I love seeing up and coming bands bring there all as supporting acts, and Vyces was no exception. They were a great addition to the bill.
After the opener’s blistering set, the stage was set for the headliner. Powerman 5000 came out with lasers on their arms shining them around the venue to great effect. The show was high energy and flawless musically. This is a band that has worked on their image and presentation and was a blast to photograph. The crowd interaction and banter between songs kept the audience engaged. They even had one extended jam that they managed to work part of Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage” and Rage Against the Machine’s “Bulls on Parade” into. The band killed it performing their normal set, plus a three song encore.
There are a lot of shows left on this leg of the tour, so be sure to catch the show when it comes through your area!
