Every so often you attend a show which you can later say to your friends “I was there,” this was one of those nights.  It’s called “Live At The Dive” which is sponsored by Bud Light and Philadelphia’s top alternative music station,   –  RADIO104.5.  What a fantastic idea, take a very large act, and place them in a very small venue (not so much a dive).  In this case it was The Struts at the Milkboy located in the heart of Philadelphia.  This was a very tough show to attend, as you could only get a ticket if you were randomly selected from various online channels through the radio station.

Located on the second floor of what really is a corner bar, the room filled to under a hundred-lucky people.  The setlist matched the venue, a little flavor, a bit more condensed, but packed a punch. Luke commented that it reminded him of when the band was starting out.  The Struts opened with new tracks “In Love with a Camera,” and “Body Talks” off their latest release YOUNG & DANGEROUS, followed by established hits “Kiss This,” and “Put Your Money On Me.”  Next came a Happy Birthday announcement as super fan WAPS was asked to come up on stage, and help sing his special request, “Matter of Time” (only time played on the tour), and Luke led the crowd into singing WAPS “Happy Birthday!”

The band then went to covers, Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing In The Dark,” Chis Isaak’s “Wicked Game,” and The Rolling Stones’ “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” which the crowd thoroughly enjoyed.  Closing the show were “Ol’ Switcheroo,” and “Could Have Been Me.”  A remarkable evening with such a great band in a very intimate setting, it’s no wonder Luke jumped into the crowd to sing with everyone.  I can’t remember the last time he could do that?
