The city of Philadelphia was treated to an amazing performance by Garbage at the Mann Center in Fairmont Park on Friday night. The band’s line-up has remained unchanged during their thirty plus year history of making music together. Shirley Manson (lead vocals), Duke Erikson (guitar, keyboards), Steve Marker (guitar, keyboards), and Butch Vig (drums) continue to bring a tremendous amount of energy to the stage.
They opened with “Supervixen,” followed by “#1Crush”, and “The Men Who Rule the World”, at which point Shirley took command of the show and made her way out into the crowd walking along the narrow walkway between the pit and the larger audience.
The bands’ edginess continued to shine as they performed a cover of Siouxsie and the Banshees’ “Cities in Dust” followed by their own mega hits “I Think I’m Paranoid” and “Stupid Girl.” The crowd was enthralled hitting a fever pitch by the time the band closed out their set with “Only Happy When It Rains” and “Cherry Lips.”
Although the U.S. leg of the tour, which they co-headlined with Noel Gallagher and his High-Flying Birds has ended, Garbage is headed south first to Mexico and then on to Brazil where they will join the Foo Fighters at The Town festival in Sao Paulo. Hopefully, there will be additional North American dates in the future.
